Abbie Wilkinson, one of our Internal Sales Administrators who is currently working towards gaining her NVQ Level 3 qualification in Customer Services took to the sky's recently for a daring sky dive.
The dive was in aid of the charity Bluebell Woods Children's Hospice in Yorkshire who care for children with shortened lives to support them and their families.
Bluebell Wood is very close to Abbie and her family and she is so pleased to have raised over £2,200 and still growing, which will enable the hospice to continue their invaluable help to many children and their families.
Helen Clark, Marketing Manager comments: "Certainly not an activity for the faint hearted, we are all so proud of Abbie on completing her sky dive and on her fundraising achievements for Bluebell Wood."
Two Abode kitchen products were featured on ITV's Alan Titchmarsh's Love Your Home & Garden television programme, which aired on Wednesday 6th September.
Working with the programme's organisers, the London based architects undertaking the project, chose the Abode black granite Matrix GR10 kitchen sink as the designer's dream for showcasing and installing, along with a matching New Media single lever tap in Granite Black to enhance the new kitchen.
The home and garden makeover was completed for a couple with a severely disabled, wheelchair bound son who, due to door sizes to their kitchen and garden, had never been in either.
In the makeover, the downstairs rooms were totally opened up including the doors to the garden, giving their son access to everywhere and he is happy and able to see his mother at all times, whichever room she is in.
The Matrix GR10 sink and New Media tap were the perfect addition in creating an 'on trend' style statement and we are delighted that the family have been rewarded with this makeover.
"A dream come true! We made it to the 5895m high summit of Mount Kilimanjaro after a final night climb of 1205m in freezing temperatures. It is the hardest thing I have ever done, but also the most worthwhile". This was the message received from Darren Holliday, Managing Director of Abode from the top of kilimanjaro.Darren and two of his friends took on this challenge, with Darren fundraising for the 'Hartlepool Families First'. The charity enables disabled children in Hartlepool to enjoy life to the full and was chosen by Darren as a 19 year old healthy son of a friend, who worked for the charity, went to bed one night last October and never woke up. He died of Sudden Death Syndrome.
Darren has personally raised over £10k to date (with the figure still rising) and between the three of them raised almost £25k for a number of charities related to sudden death in the young.
The climb saw the 38 strong team which included porters, guides, medics and cooks trek between 4-8 hours daily for seven days to climb to the top and back in freezing conditions. They made it to the dangerous, near vertical summit, at 6.05am on Thursday 29th June, trekking in -17° conditions.
Darren would like to thank everyone who supported his adventure and knows that this achievement will help benefit many disabled children to achieve their goals in life.
If you would like to donate and support Darren's climb in memory of George Wall, please feel free to visit his JustGiving page. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Darren-Holliday-Kilimanjaro-Challenge
Darren Holliday, Managing Director here at Abode is taking on the Mount Kilimanjaro Ascent Challenge in June, fundraising for 'Hartlepool Families First' charity. The charity enables disabled children in Hartlepool, to enjoy life to the full.
This charity was chosen by Darren as the son of a friend, who was a healthy 19 year old rugby player, with his whole life ahead of him, went to bed on 19th October last year, but never woke up again. George died of Sudden Death Syndrome (SDS), which is a sudden unexpected cardia arrest death, mainly in the young. Very little is known about SDS, but it is more common in the UK than you might expect.
George was volunteering at a local charity, Hertlepool Families First when the tragedy happened, so in his honour Darren intends to raise money to support the charity in all the good work they do for families in need, in and around the area. George was a gregarious man who was always helping other people and had recently returned from Tanzania, where he worked for another charity project, so it only seems right to attempt to climb Africa's highest peak without oxygen, in honour of his name.
Darren's training is intense right now and will see the highest mountains in England, Wales and Scotland being climbed ahead of his attempt to the summit of Kilimanjaro in June.
Recently Darren climbed, Suilven and Stac Polliadh in Scotland, unfortunately the sun didnt shine that day but that made it all the more important to get to the top of both mountains. Next is the Three Peaks challenge and excercise and training carries on until the journey to the top of Kilimanjaro.
If you would like to donate to help Darren and his support in memory of George Wall, please visit his JustGiving page. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/darren-holliday-kilimanjaro-challenge

Matthew Pitt, Commercial & Operations Director of Abode, has just completed a 90 mile walk along the Dales Way, a long distance footpath, raising over £2,500 for his chosen charity the Alzheimers Society.
The Dales Way is a demanding but rewarding route, taking five and a half days through fabulous Yorkshire countryside. Highlights en-route were seeing the Flying Scotsman train cross the Ribblehead viaduct, looking over the scenic Lake Windermere from the fells and watching the sun set over the Wharfe valley.
"We met some great characters from all over the world. When we reached Ilkley I celebrated with a much-needed pint of Wharfedale bitter. Thanks to everyone who donated money for dementia research" said Matthew.
A new 232 page bathroom brochure has been introduced for 2017 emulating the creative lines of the Abode product range. It has been designed as a complete product information guide providing both our retail partners and the consumer with everything they need to know, to make those all important decisions.
The new brochure has been designed in an aesthetically appealing and succint way and is divided into range categories which illustrate each tap beautifully, whether a mini basin tap, floor standing bath/shower mixer, thermostatic shower or accessory. To be extra helpful, full dimensions, specifications and prices are shown alongside each product as well as a water pressure guide and warranty details. The brochure designer has thought of everything.
The Abode bathroom collection now includes 21 different brassware collections to choose from as well as our extensive showering portfolio including our new 3 control 3 exit shower valves. Also featured is our award winning Tempeau thermostatic collection.
This year here at Abode we are wishing our customers and distributor partners 'Seasons Greetings' with a merry e-Christmas card. Over the past two years, instead of spending money on hundreds of Christmas cards, we have helped many people by donating money and gifts to different charities.
This year, we are donating to the largest annual 'Christmas Toy Appeal' in the UK. Mission Christmas is run by Cash for Kids who work with thousands of grass-root organisations across the UK supporting disadvantaged children aged up to 18 years old. Mission Christmas also work closely with social workers, head teachers and the emergency services, who all nominate families 'in crisis' to be supported by the appeal.
Last year the annual appeal generated more than £13million in gifts and donations which were distributed to more than 300,000 disadvantaged kids, throughout the UK.
This year's Mission Christmas aims to beat last year's fundraising total and make sure it can help as many children as possible. In an effort to reach out to the Appeal, as well as the Company's donation, staff at Abode are fundraising internally, as a team, as well as donating gifts themselves to the appeal.
Abode has appointed two new Area Sales Managers, David Jackson and Graeme Blythe to further expand and strengthen the sales and support team.
David Jackson joins the business as Sales Manager - Midlands, covering areas from Derbyshire down through to Oxfordshire and Essex. David isn't a stranger to the kitchens and bathrooms industry and has considerable experience of the industry's distribution markets across the central UK regions.
The new Sales Manager for the South East region is Graeme Blyth who also comes to Abode with considerable experience of our market from both sides of the fence, having previously worked in buying roles and key sales positions within the industry.
Both of the new managers bring years of experience to Abode and know the industry and their sales areas well. Pete Phelan, National Sales Manager comments: "We are delighted to welcome David and Graeme to Abode and with their sales and distribution knowledge are a valuable addition to the sales team and will become real assets to our business. We wish them both every success."
Three years ago Abode commited to giving something back to the community, in and around the local Barnsley area, by employing a number of apprentices.
Regan Goddard, who joined in 2014, has worked and studied diligently and has already graduated with a nationally recognised NVQ Level 2 qualification.
Ellie McCall and Abbie Wilkinson, two additional apprentices working at Abode, passed their NVQ Level 2 exams in Business and Administration earlier this year and we are delighted that they will now be working towards gaining their NVQ level 3 qualification in Customer Services. Both Ellie and Abbie will start their studies, in conjunction with North Lancashire Training. These courses are funded through the European Social Fund which supports activities to extend employment opportunities and help employers develop a skilled workforce and will last 12-24 months.
Matthew Pitt of Abode comments: "It's great to see our former apprentices make an increasing contribution by applying what they have learned. Our ongoing commitment to staff training is an investment, not only in their career development but also in the long term of the future of the company, as it continues to grow"
Abode and renowned bathroom distributor, Barwick Bathroom Distribution, have formed a partnership to promote and sell the company's vast range of designer led bathroom taps and showering solutions throughout the UK.
Barwick are a long established and respected distributor within the bathroom sector.

It's exciting times for us here at Abode and this new partnership is perfectly timed to capitalise on recent portfolio additions and extensions".
"Barwick have an extremely experienced sales team and infrastructure that will be able to offer a comprehensive support package to UK retailers, which is second to none and perfectly reflects the quality of our product range and brand".
The newly formed partnership between Abode and Barwick will commence on 12th September 2016.

All new products launched at KBB earlier this year are 'on show' as well as the full collection of our designer tap ranges either as cut-outs, fitted onto one of the many sinks from Abode, or as close-up's, giving creative interior design ideas to the customer.
We have made product selection even easier for retailers and consumers as the redesigned brochure is broken down into new dedicated dections, there's easy to use contents and index sections and all sink families are listed in alphatebical order to make locating them easier and quicker. There is also a new colour coding design scheme in place, again to help product location.

Louise will cover the South East and South West of England in her role as Area Sales Manager to support and train its retailer base as well as to increase Abode's showroom presence of their award winning kitchen sinks and taps as well as bathroom brassware and showers.
Louise has worked in the kitchen and bathroom industry for over 13 years and has gained wide experience. Pete Phelan, National Sales Manager of Abode comments: 'We are delighted to welcome louise to the business and wih her background experience will undoubtley become a real asset to the business. We wish her every success.'
Today, 1st April 2016 Norcros plc, the market leading supplier of innovative branded showers, taps, bathroom accessories, tiles and adhesives, announces its acquisition of 100% of the share capital of Abode Home Products Ltd for a total of £4.8m. £3.9m has been settled in cash and £0.9m is payable in March 2019. The acquisition includes £0.4m for net cash balances and normalised working capital adjustments, such that on a debt free, cash free, normalised working capital basis, the complete package is £4.4m.
Since 2002, when Abode entered the kitchen tap market, it has proved to be an extremely successful, creative and design led company. The business's high quality product ranges have diversified and progressed through to nationwide availability of individually styled kitchen taps and mixers including the new Pronteau hot water tap, kitchen sinks as well as innovatively designed bathroom taps and showering solutions aimed at consumers aspiring to create their own individual look.
Darren Holliday, Managing Director of Abode, remarked: 'This transaction marks a new and exciting chapter for the Abode business and I am confident that being part of Norcros will enable us to accelerate the strong progress we have made over the last few years.'
'We will continue to operate autonomously under the Abode banner and work with our existing customer base. Our business has strong customer relationships and a market position in both the UK branded and own label segments and our leading edge product design, quality, technical innovation and service have been some of the key drivers of our success to date and will take us forward with Norcros to widen our horizons, which is an exciting prospect.'
Norcros plc has a growth strategy to increase revenue to £420m by 2018 and today's acquisition follows on from the succesful integration of Vado and Croydex which Norcros plc acquired in March 2013 and June 2015 respectively.
Commenting on the acquisition, Group Chief Executive Nick Kelsall said: 'The Abode business is an excellent strategic fit with our current portfolio, broadening the Group's product offer, as well as providing a number of opportunities to drive revenue and procurement synergies. I look forward to working with Darren and the team to further grow and develop the business.'
Two apprentices here at Abode, Abbie Wilkinson and Ellie McCall have passed their NVQ level 2 exams in business and administration, making them the second and third Abode apprentices to receive their NVQ qualifications.
The pair's main training for their qualifications came from working as office administrators in Abode's sales office. They follow on from Regan Goddard who was the first Abode apprentice to receive his NVQ level 2 qualification in warehousing and storage last year.
'We are delighted with Abbie and Ellie's achievements and they have both been rewarded by their hard work.' said operations manager Matthew Pitt. 'Providing apprenticeship roles for young people is a fantastic opportunity for us to invest in the local community and to help local individuals who are looking for opportunities to start their professional careers within business. We wish them every success in the future.'
Abode is wishing all of its customers and distributor partners 'Seasons Greetings' with a jolly e-christmas card this year. Instead of spending money on designing, printing and posting hundreds of Christmas cards, this year Abode are donating £500 to the British Red Cross "Europe Refugee Crisis Appeal".
The Red Cross volunteers across Europe are working around the clock to support hundreds of thousands of refugees as they attempt to reach safety. From Turkey to Hungary, Greece to the UK - the Red Cross is striving to support people who flee war and persecution.
Desperate families have no choice but to risk their lives, but with our donation, hopefully this will contribute in helping to supply food, water and medical care to those poor stateless people who have made a terrifying journey in search of safety.
Before Dan Biddle left Abode for pastures new, he worked within the design team as a technical designer for over four years. As with a lot of young designers, his reason for leaving Barnsley was to pursue a career in the bright lights of London.
Whilst working in London, Dan broadened his design skills and gained experience within the textile sector, working on MoD tenders as an industrial designer. He was also instrumental in the conception of a new 'start-up' company within the KBB sector. Here his appetite for working back at Abode was pulling him back to his roots.
With Abode's proposed expansion programme, Dan returned back to the company with a new position - Product Manager. His new role encompasses research, analysis, discovering and producing a vision to move the company forward with a fresh portfolio of innovative new products to maximise revenues.
On welcoming Dan back to the company, Darren Holliday, Managing Director of Abode said: 'It's always good to welcome back talented young designers and marketers who bring with them fresh ideas and motivation. With our evolving marketing policies, the expansion of the team will be to the benefit of the brand. Dan returns to us at an extremely exciting time, especially with KBB Birmingham looming and the introduction of our first range of 4 in 1 hot water taps'.
We launched an apprenticeship scheme in 2013, helping young people learn about the design, manufacture and distribution of Kitchen & Bathroom products, whilst also helping to support the continuing growth of the Abode business.
Regan Goddard, has become the first apprentice to complete his training, working as part of the Abode team in Barnsley. He was tutored by local training agency Brinsworth Academy, who are members of the federation for Industry Sector Skills & Standards.
Regan was trained 'on-the-job' and the apprenticeship gives him a nationally recognised NVQ Level 2 qualification, with specific focus on Warehousing & Storage. He is trained to safely operate specialist forklift trucks and has particular expertise in picking customer orders.
Darren Holliday, Managing Director of Abode, comments: "Providing apprenticeship roles is a fantastic opportunity for us to invest in local individuals as they start their careers in the industry. As our business grows, we can offer young people opportunities to develop, whilst learning specific functional skills."
