As technology in the kitchen takes hold and hot water taps become one of the most searched for items on Pinterest, we will use KBB Birmingham, the kitchen and bathroom exhibition, as a launch pad for several new additions to its Pronteau range.
The Pronteau Prothia is one of several new steaming hot water taps that can be seen on stand I90 at the March show, offering more for less in terms of its contemporary, slimline aesthetic, digital interface and factory calibrated boiler, all at an affordable price point that makes hot water technology accessible to the budget-minded consumer. With two spout choices and choice of five finishes, the Pronteau Prothia is bound to be one of the highlights of 2020.
Also being introduced to KBB Birningham is our NEW Coniq collection, this range of mixertaps offer unique modern styling and is available in two brand new finishes, Polished Copper and Black Nickel. The perfect focal point for any modern kitchen.
With a continuous product design and development programme at its heart, Abode has strengthened its Barnsley based technical and design team with the appointment of Aime Mbodi, who joins the business as Technical Assistant.
With a degree in Design Engineering, Aime joins the Abode team from B. Braun Medical Ltd in Sheffield where he has been Aseptic Production Operator for the past year. In his new role with Abode, Aime will work alongside Paul Illingworth and Mark Staweczny in developing innovative products for the sinks and taps market, also aiding with technical document creation ensuring the customer has a wealth of information provided on new products as quickly as possible.
As part of the technical and design team, Aime will help create products that are both beautiful and practical and that stand out within the kitchen or bathroom yet also integrate within the overall scheme, allowing Abode to retain their focus and speed as innovators within the kbb industry.
Two of Abode's latest products have been chosen by the design team from George Clarke's Old House, New Home, appearing on prime time national TV as part of a dramatic property makeover.
The final episode of series 4 of the Channel 4 show sees architect and TV personality George Clarke focus on the design dilemmas faced when trying to achieve a modern look in a period home, proving that it is possible to create a perfect blend of old and new.
Meeting the brief perfectly, the Abode Hex single lever tap in a brushed nickel finish was chosen to play a key part of the kitchen re-design. Teamed with the stunning undermount Matrix GR15 sink in white granite, a classic look in keeping with the age of the property is achieved, but with all the practical features needed to suit a modern lifestyle.
"We were delighted to work with the design team at Amazing Productions to provide products for this property makeover," comments Marketing Manager here at Abode Leanne Adamson. "The Hex tap and Matrix granite sink are proof that unique product designs have their place in a variety of settings, helping achieve just the right mix of old and new that George Clarke and his team were looking for."

Taking on a fresh format with a consumer-focused design, the new Abode Sinks and Taps brochure has a coffee table magazine vibe, combined with all the practical details retailers need when specifying products.
Packed with more information than ever before, the brochure is design-led, much like the products themselves, with an inspiring layout and striking photography throughout.
A useful sales tool, the brochure also aids retailers and consumers with matching Abode sinks and taps for the perfect pairing of products that are so often purchased together.
Simple to navigate, the brochure is a handy reference guide to all things Abode, beginning with the manufacturer’s impressive sinks range which encompasses stainless steel, ceramic and granite undermounts and insets.
As well as detailing each sink, the brochure explains the differences between the materials, sizes and styles available so consumers can make an informed choice and retailers have the top-line details at their fingertips.
The Taps offering is just as comprehensive, with Pronteau steaming hot water taps, contemporary and traditional styles plus Abode’s range of water filter taps all featured.
A useful breakdown of Abode finishes takes the challenge out of finding taps to complement the overall kitchen design, while an overview of tap performance ensures the correct choice of tap is made based on individual plumbing requirements.
Overall the Abode Sinks and Taps brochure combines inspiration with information, creating an essential marketing tool for retailers.
The team here at Abode are throwing support behind a charity bike challenge taking pace this summer in aid of Alzheimer's Research UK.
With the cause being close to the hearts of many of the Abode team, we will be the principle event sponsor as the two men, James Osbourne and Matt Mooney, take on a 24-hour bike challenge across the Peak District. The duo aim to cover around 150 miles in 24 hours, completing loops of the 2.5 mile long Dove Stone Reservoir on the edge of the Peak District.
Donating £500 to the cause, the Abode logo will feature on the pair's cycling equipment and on their website at www.24hourbikeride.com.
"When I heard about the challenge that my personal trainer, James and his friend had set themselves I knew it was something that the Abode team would be keen to support," explained Managing Director Darren Holliday.
"Alzheimers is a terrible illness that many of us at Abode have felt the impact of personally, with family members having been affected. We're pleased to be able to support James and Matt and wish them the very best of luck when they set off."
Alzheimers Research UK is the country's leading dementia research charity, with a vision for a world where people are free from the fear, harm and heartbreak of dementia. For every £1 donated, 85p goes straight into ground-breaking reasearch.
Entering into the spirit of the season while reducing the amount of non-recyclable waste that Christmas can bring, we have replaced the tradition of giving Christmas cards with a charity donation, raising money for local people in need.
For 2018 we have sent the money we would normally spend on purchasing and posting Christmas cards to our customers straight to the EyUp Charity. The organisation supports the work of South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust in making a difference to the community, mental health, wellbeing and learning disability services.
The charity helps with things for hospital ward areas such as games or equipment and play areas and comfy chairs for visitor areas. It also helps fund community groups, to help boost wellbeing and aid recovery.
"Supporting the community in whatever way we can is important to Abode all year round and particularly so at Christmas which can be a difficult time for many people," explains Abode Marketing Manager Leanne Adamson. "Instead of sending corporate Christmas cards, for the last few years we have donated the money to local charitable causes. The EyUp Charity which helps to spread health and happiness throughout Yorkshire is something that we are only too pleased to support."
We have recently bolstered our customer service team with the appointment of Danny Atkinson as the new Customer Service Team Leader.
Danny has been wth Abode for eight years and is very familiar with the business and its products, having been a warehouse operative for five years, before moving to the customer service department to answer customer's technical queries.
In his new role Danny will put his extensive technical knowledge of Abode products to good use, managing the company's expanding customer service department. The team has recently welcomed three new additions, with Ros Ormston and James Dickson joining the business.
Danny will be responsible for developing the department moving forward by identifying and making key improvements and implementing new means of handling Abode's value-added service proposition.
He will also lead the team in delivering excellent post sales service, something that is at the heart of the Abode propsition, developing this key area to offer customer optimum after sales care.
With the Great British Bake Off back on the TV, The team here at Abode headquarters have been donning their aprons and rolling up their sleeves to show off their own baking talents, in the Abode Bake Off Challenge.
Jumping on the baking bandwagon and giving Prue Leith a run for her money, cake creations in the challenge so far have included a culinery version of the Abode Vixo mixertap complete with cascading water and the rose gold Serentitie shower valve made from tasty orange cake.
Abode Managing Director Darren Holliday also proved himself to be a whizz in the kitchen, with this version of the Abode Storm showerhead being a definite showstopper. With several weeks of the show still to go, there are plenty more baking treats to come from the Abode team, as they battle it out to be crowned the Bake Off winner.
The ongoing 'Great Abode Bake Off' challenge can be followed on the company’s Facebook page, with a winner set to eventually be crowned.
With sinks and taps being the perfect pairing and so often purchased together, Abode has made it easier than ever for retailers to maximise on sales and extend profit margins, with the launch of a dedicated sink and tap packs brochure.
Offering retailers significant savings on pack pricing compared to purchasing separately, the literature includes a comprehensive range of Abode sinks, which feature a wide range of undermount and inset options. The brochure offers a selection of key products from each of the manufacturer's six sink collections - in stainless steel, ceramic and granite - each perfectly paired with a popular tap and suggested upgrades.
The literature acts as a handy reference guide for retailers when looking to place an order for Abode products, with full specification details and product codes displayed, alongside a comprehensive description highlighting the key selling points of each sink. Specification is truly made quick and simple with this latest addition to the Abode brochure portfolio.
The savings to be made on purchasing each sink and tap are clearly marked, with suggested tap upgrades also included to aid retailers in trading up when speaking to customers. A handy matrix at the back of the brochure makes it straightforward for retailers to find the overall RRP for the sink and tap solution required, enabling calculations on orders to be made quickly and accurately.
Pack prices run from 31st August 2018 to 31st March 2019, and products can be ordered through your preferred Abode distributor.
Abode has appointed Leanne Adamson as its new marketing manager, and Robert Innes in the new role of quality engineer. Adamson (pictured) joins the company after 10 years at Sensio Lighting, where she established and headed up the marketing department for five-and-a-half years. “Having over 10 years’ experience in the KBB industry, on top of my previous responsibility of promoting and driving forward a brand that places its core value on innovation, quality and service, makes my integration here at Abode pretty seamless,” Adamson said.
Darren Holliday, managing director of Abode, commented: “We are delighted to welcome Leanne to the team. It’s a time of significant growth for the company and Leanne will play an integral part of our future development.
Robert Innes’s role has been created as high standards are central to the Abode brand and he will take responsibility for internal audits, preparation of procedures and continuously improving quality with Abode’s factories. Innes joins the company from Esterform Packaging, where he worked for 21 years in a similar quality-management role.

Abbie Wilkinson, one of our Internal Sales Administrators who is currently working towards gaining her NVQ Level 3 qualification in Customer Services took to the sky's recently for a daring sky dive.
The dive was in aid of the charity Bluebell Woods Children's Hospice in Yorkshire who care for children with shortened lives to support them and their families.
Bluebell Wood is very close to Abbie and her family and she is so pleased to have raised over £2,200 and still growing, which will enable the hospice to continue their invaluable help to many children and their families.
Helen Clark, Marketing Manager comments: "Certainly not an activity for the faint hearted, we are all so proud of Abbie on completing her sky dive and on her fundraising achievements for Bluebell Wood."
Two Abode kitchen products were featured on ITV's Alan Titchmarsh's Love Your Home & Garden television programme, which aired on Wednesday 6th September.
Working with the programme's organisers, the London based architects undertaking the project, chose the Abode black granite Matrix GR10 kitchen sink as the designer's dream for showcasing and installing, along with a matching New Media single lever tap in Granite Black to enhance the new kitchen.
The home and garden makeover was completed for a couple with a severely disabled, wheelchair bound son who, due to door sizes to their kitchen and garden, had never been in either.
In the makeover, the downstairs rooms were totally opened up including the doors to the garden, giving their son access to everywhere and he is happy and able to see his mother at all times, whichever room she is in.
The Matrix GR10 sink and New Media tap were the perfect addition in creating an 'on trend' style statement and we are delighted that the family have been rewarded with this makeover.
"A dream come true! We made it to the 5895m high summit of Mount Kilimanjaro after a final night climb of 1205m in freezing temperatures. It is the hardest thing I have ever done, but also the most worthwhile". This was the message received from Darren Holliday, Managing Director of Abode from the top of kilimanjaro.
Darren and two of his friends took on this challenge, with Darren fundraising for the 'Hartlepool Families First'. The charity enables disabled children in Hartlepool to enjoy life to the full and was chosen by Darren as a 19 year old healthy son of a friend, who worked for the charity, went to bed one night last October and never woke up. He died of Sudden Death Syndrome.
Darren has personally raised over £10k to date (with the figure still rising) and between the three of them raised almost £25k for a number of charities related to sudden death in the young.
The climb saw the 38 strong team which included porters, guides, medics and cooks trek between 4-8 hours daily for seven days to climb to the top and back in freezing conditions. They made it to the dangerous, near vertical summit, at 6.05am on Thursday 29th June, trekking in -17° conditions.
Darren would like to thank everyone who supported his adventure and knows that this achievement will help benefit many disabled children to achieve their goals in life.
If you would like to donate and support Darren's climb in memory of George Wall, please feel free to visit his JustGiving page. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Darren-Holliday-Kilimanjaro-Challenge
Darren Holliday, Managing Director here at Abode is taking on the Mount Kilimanjaro Ascent Challenge in June, fundraising for 'Hartlepool Families First' charity. The charity enables disabled children in Hartlepool, to enjoy life to the full.
This charity was chosen by Darren as the son of a friend, who was a healthy 19 year old rugby player, with his whole life ahead of him, went to bed on 19th October last year, but never woke up again. George died of Sudden Death Syndrome (SDS), which is a sudden unexpected cardia arrest death, mainly in the young. Very little is known about SDS, but it is more common in the UK than you might expect.
George was volunteering at a local charity, Hertlepool Families First when the tragedy happened, so in his honour Darren intends to raise money to support the charity in all the good work they do for families in need, in and around the area. George was a gregarious man who was always helping other people and had recently returned from Tanzania, where he worked for another charity project, so it only seems right to attempt to climb Africa's highest peak without oxygen, in honour of his name.
Darren's training is intense right now and will see the highest mountains in England, Wales and Scotland being climbed ahead of his attempt to the summit of Kilimanjaro in June.
Recently Darren climbed, Suilven and Stac Polliadh in Scotland, unfortunately the sun didnt shine that day but that made it all the more important to get to the top of both mountains. Next is the Three Peaks challenge and excercise and training carries on until the journey to the top of Kilimanjaro.
If you would like to donate to help Darren and his support in memory of George Wall, please visit his JustGiving page. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/darren-holliday-kilimanjaro-challenge

Matthew Pitt, Commercial & Operations Director of Abode, has just completed a 90 mile walk along the Dales Way, a long distance footpath, raising over £2,500 for his chosen charity the Alzheimers Society.
The Dales Way is a demanding but rewarding route, taking five and a half days through fabulous Yorkshire countryside. Highlights en-route were seeing the Flying Scotsman train cross the Ribblehead viaduct, looking over the scenic Lake Windermere from the fells and watching the sun set over the Wharfe valley.
"We met some great characters from all over the world. When we reached Ilkley I celebrated with a much-needed pint of Wharfedale bitter. Thanks to everyone who donated money for dementia research" said Matthew.
