Abode has launched its Approved Partner Scheme to support retailers as they welcome customers back into showrooms following months of restrictions and lockdown due to the pandemic.

SAFER WORKING ENVIRONMENT FOR ABODE

While much of the country focused on working from home during the spring lockdown, sink and tap manufacturer Abode took to the opportunity to invest in improvements to its head office in South Yorkshire, enabling staff to work safely with full Covid-secure measures in place.

“As the business grows, space has become quite limited,” explains Managing Director Matthew Pitt. “We were able to bring staff back from furlough relatively quickly following the lockdown and needed to be able to maintain a high level of customer support throughout the pandemic and beyond, making these structural changes to head office very timely,” explains Managing Director Matthew Pitt.

“Providing a safe environment for our staff takes priority, while these improvements also give us more space to work and room to grow in the future.”

The new layout sees the customer service and sales teams working within one office for the first time, enabling more collaborative working, while a new mezzanine level has been created that allows more space for the product and technical teams to carry out important tasks including product testing.

“Providing a safe environment for our staff takes priority, while these improvements also give us more space to work and room to grow in the future,” says Matthew.

The team here at Abode are throwing support behind a charity bike challenge taking pace this summer in aid of Alzheimer's Research UK.

With the cause being close to the hearts of many of the Abode team, we will be the principle event sponsor as the two men, James Osbourne and Matt Mooney, take on a 24-hour bike challenge across the Peak District. The duo aim to cover around 150 miles in 24 hours, completing loops of the 2.5 mile long Dove Stone Reservoir on the edge of the Peak District.

SEASONS GREETINGS ADD UP FOR CHARITY

DECEMBER 18

Entering into the spirit of the season while reducing the amount of non-recyclable waste that Christmas can bring, we have replaced the tradition of giving Christmas cards with a charity donation, raising money for local people in need.

For 2018 we have sent the money we would normally spend on purchasing and posting Christmas cards to our customers straight to the EyUp Charity. The organisation supports the work of South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust in making a difference to the community, mental health, wellbeing and learning disability services.

The charity helps with things for hospital ward areas such as games or equipment and play areas and comfy chairs for visitor areas. It also helps fund community groups, to help boost wellbeing and aid recovery.

"Supporting the community in whatever way we can is important to Abode all year round and particularly so at Christmas which can be a difficult time for many people," explains Abode Marketing Manager Leanne Adamson. "Instead of sending corporate Christmas cards, for the last few years we have donated the money to local charitable causes. The EyUp Charity which helps to spread health and happiness throughout Yorkshire is something that we are only too pleased to support."

ABODE PRODUCTS APPEAR ON ITV'S LOVE YOUR HOME & GARDEN

SEPTEMBER 17

Two Abode kitchen products were featured on ITV's Alan Titchmarsh's Love Your Home & Garden television programme, which aired on Wednesday 6th September.

Working with the programme's organisers, the London based architects undertaking the project, chose the Abode black granite Matrix GR10 kitchen sink as the designer's dream for showcasing and installing, along with a matching New Media single lever tap in Granite Black to enhance the new kitchen.

The home and garden makeover was completed for a couple with a severely disabled, wheelchair bound son who, due to door sizes to their kitchen and garden, had never been in either.

In the makeover, the downstairs rooms were totally opened up including the doors to the garden, giving their son access to everywhere and he is happy and able to see his mother at all times, whichever room she is in.

The Matrix GR10 sink and New Media tap were the perfect addition in creating an 'on trend' style statement and we are delighted that the family have been rewarded with this makeover.

ABODE'S DARREN HOLLIDAY MAKES IT TO THE TOP OF MT. KILIMANJARO

JULY 17

"A dream come true! We made it to the 5895m high summit of Mount Kilimanjaro after a final night climb of 1205m in freezing temperatures. It is the hardest thing I have ever done, but also the most worthwhile". This was the message received from Darren Holliday, Managing Director of Abode from the top of kilimanjaro.

Darren and two of his friends took on this challenge, with Darren fundraising for the 'Hartlepool Families First'. The charity enables disabled children in Hartlepool to enjoy life to the full and was chosen by Darren as a 19 year old healthy son of a friend, who worked for the charity, went to bed one night last October and never woke up. He died of Sudden Death Syndrome.

Darren has personally raised over £10k to date (with the figure still rising) and between the three of them raised almost £25k for a number of charities related to sudden death in the young.

The climb saw the 38 strong team which included porters, guides, medics and cooks trek between 4-8 hours daily for seven days to climb to the top and back in freezing conditions. They made it to the dangerous, near vertical summit, at 6.05am on Thursday 29th June, trekking in -17° conditions.

Darren would like to thank everyone who supported his adventure and knows that this achievement will help benefit many disabled children to achieve their goals in life.

If you would like to donate and support Darren's climb in memory of George Wall, please feel free to visit his JustGiving page. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Darren-Holliday-Kilimanjaro-Challenge

DARREN HOLLIDAY ABODE M.D. TAKES ON ANOTHER CHALLENGE

JUNE 17

Darren Holliday, Managing Director here at Abode is taking on the Mount Kilimanjaro Ascent Challenge in June, fundraising for 'Hartlepool Families First' charity. The charity enables disabled children in Hartlepool, to enjoy life to the full.

This charity was chosen by Darren as the son of a friend, who was a healthy 19 year old rugby player, with his whole life ahead of him, went to bed on 19th October last year, but never woke up again. George died of Sudden Death Syndrome (SDS), which is a sudden unexpected cardia arrest death, mainly in the young. Very little is known about SDS, but it is more common in the UK than you might expect.

George was volunteering at a local charity, Hertlepool Families First when the tragedy happened, so in his honour Darren intends to raise money to support the charity in all the good work they do for families in need, in and around the area. George was a gregarious man who was always helping other people and had recently returned from Tanzania, where he worked for another charity project, so it only seems right to attempt to climb Africa's highest peak without oxygen, in honour of his name.

Darren's training is intense right now and will see the highest mountains in England, Wales and Scotland being climbed ahead of his attempt to the summit of Kilimanjaro in June.

Recently Darren climbed, Suilven and Stac Polliadh in Scotland, unfortunately the sun didnt shine that day but that made it all the more important to get to the top of both mountains. Next is the Three Peaks challenge and excercise and training carries on until the journey to the top of Kilimanjaro.

If you would like to donate to help Darren and his support in memory of George Wall, please visit his JustGiving page. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/darren-holliday-kilimanjaro-challenge
