Paul Illingworth, Design Manager at Abode has been selected as one of 20 industry designers who, Designer Kitchen & Bathroom magazine feel, 'the industry should know about'.
The D-List comprises designers from some of the most innovative and inventive bathroom and kitchen companies. Martin Smith, editor of the magazine states: "What all 20 D-Listers have in common is that their work inspires and encourages others to continue to raise the bar in innovative design in kitchens and bathrooms, constantly suggesting new ways of utilising clever design to tackle problems old and new".
Paul has been in the industry for over 17 years and with Abode for nine years. Working closely with Darren Holliday, owner of Abode, he has been prolific in developing a wide range of innovative products for the brand. He has extensive and varied product experience that has led to significant sales success and numerous product awards for Abode - to name a few products, Fliq, Verla and Zucca kitchen taps, the unusual Tydal sink and Orbit sink waste. For the bathroom, Decadence taps plus the unique thermostatic valve concept, Tempeau.
Paul is elated and feels honoured to be one of the first to hit the Designer K&B magazine D-List. He comments: "My approach to design has certainly become more subtle over the years and I think that as one matures you start to gather a wider appreciation for the design likes and dislikes of others and these automatically filter into your work, whereas I think the younger version of myself, designed more selfishly. I still probably get the greatest joys from solving annoying or fiddly design problems with the simplest solutions, these are the daily successes - in between the big product launches".
Abode have been nominated as finalists in the first ever Bathroom & Kitchen Update magazine Awards.
With a tried and tested secure online nomination and voting process, BKU announce their first ever finalists and Abode have been nominated for Awards in two categories, 'Best Bathroom Taps Brand' and 'Best Kitchen Sinks Brand'.

We are delighted to announce that the unique Verla monobloc kitchen tap has been nominated for the 2015 Kbbreview Design Awards within the 'Kitchen Product Innovation of the Year' section.
Verla is an innovative new take on kitchen mixer tap styling with a unique 'V' shaped body design. The smooth curved radii of the tap comes together perfectly from the architecturally tall spout design, to the easy-to-operate style handles. Manufactured in Chrome and Brushed Nickel, Verla is pure design, distinctly stylish and certainly a tap to stand out from the crowd.
The Awards ceremony takes place on March 16th.
Abode win gold again! The Gold Award presented to Paul Illingworth at the recent Designer Kitchen & Bathroom magazine Awards, makes it six golds in a row for Abode!
Abode is one of the industry’s top brassware design and manufacturing companies and they are delighted to have won a Gold Award for the Innovation in Design (Bathroom Products) category for their new product, Tempeau®. Tempeau is a unique new thermostatic concept born partially from legislation changes to thermostatic bathing safety in Part G building regulations and partially from on-going conversations with the public and installers alike. Tempeau is a UK designed product, for UK pressure and meeting UK building regulations.
Tempeau ensures thermostatic safety is delivered to both bathing and showering experiences and allows the user to obtain the best possible flow performance from the UK’s notoriously low pressure hot water systems. It was created to be significantly faster and easier to install as it is connected to the underside of the bath – no more channelling of walls or tile replacements, it is an installer’s dream product - and is intrinsically simple to understand and easy to order.
Darren Holliday, Director of Abode says: We are absolutely delighted that Tempeau has been recognised. We continually strive to bring new innovative products to market that not only meet current and future legislative requirements but do so without compromising on design. Tempeau is the perfect example of design, performance and quality created with the installer in mind.
Abode’s unique new thermostatic concept, Tempeau was judged a finalist at KBB LDN 2013 Innovation Awards. Tempeau was born partially from legislation changes to thermostatic bathing safety in Part G building regulations and partially from on-going conversations with the public and installers. Tempeau is a UK designed product for UK style deck mounted baths, for UK water pressure and meeting UK building regulations.
Thermostatic showers have long since been increasing in popularity in the UK, but when thermostatic regulations came into force there were and still remains, very few options available.
At the heart of the Abode concept is the Tempeau thermostatic valve design, designed and created:
• To ensure thermostatic safety is delivered to both bathing and showering experiences.
• To allow the user to obtain the best possible flow performance from the UK’s notoriously low pressure hot water systems.
• To be significantly faster and easier to install as Tempeau is connected to the underside of the bath. No more channelling of walls.
• To be intrinsically simple to understand and easy to order.
The result is a carefully selected combination of bathing and showering kits which have been selected by the Abode designers to make life simpler and safer. All the consumer has to do is choose the style of kit configuration and the design of the hand wheels either from the Abode brochure or on line at www.abode.eu – it really is that simple!
